Local Search Tips - Listing Your Business Online

Florist Online Listing

Whether you are controlling it or not, your small business most likely has an online listing. Sure, you have a great website in which you invest your time, but where does that traffic come from? The most likely answer is search engines like Google. For example, if someone in LA types in “plumber” a list of plumbers near their location will pop up. Here’s how to improve searchability.

Layout Essential Business Details

Even if you have not set this page up for your small business, it probably still exists! The pages can list a business’s name, photos, logo, address, phone number, hours, and reviews, but if you have not claimed and begun handling your listing, some of those fields may be blank or incorrect. That could potentially impact potential customers, especially when your competitor has a completed listing.

Claim Your Location

Claiming your business is a fairly simple process. Search “Google My Business” and click the button for “Get on Google.” If you already have a listing, it will pop up when you search for it, and you can simply click on it and follow the instructions to claim it. If your business does not yet have a listing, click “Add your business.” Fill out all of the required information and be completely sure that it is accurate. A verification code will be mailed to the address you provide for your business within a couple of weeks, and then you can officially claim your business and official control the listing.

There is a chance that your listing has already been claimed by someone else. In that case, your first step is to ask around your company and make sure it wasn’t someone who works there or used to work there. The person who claimed the business will have to transfer it to you. If you do not know who that person is, you will have to use the contact information from the listing to try to find them and get it transferred over to you.

Enhance with Photos of the Business

Once you have claimed or added your listing, add photos of your business, your logo, and as much accurate information as you can to it. Make it eye-catching and informative, and it could draw in new customers who do a local search.
