Nestled in the heart of Reading, Pennsylvania lies Mount Penn Elementary School. This quiet suburb provides an oasis of education for over 300 students. Since 1924 this public institution has allowed students from diverse backgrounds to pursue academic success. Mount Penn is proud to serve a community of nearly 50% Hispanic and 59% economically disadvantaged students. The financial undertaking of providing up-to-date technology and tools to the young learners of Mount Penn can be overwhelming. Infinity Insurance Agency, Inc (IIA) was happy to donate funds to initiate a transformative project called ‘Zooming into Our World.’
A mashup of hands-on learning and microscopic fascination, this immersive experience enables the development of analytical reasoning. The Zooming into Our World initiative was established in April 2024 to spark excitement in the student body of Mount Penn. It is IIA’s greatest desire to stoke these flames of creativity and exploration so students will be emboldened to pursue the possibility of a career in science, tech, and engineering.
Through the Zooming into Our World project, Mount Penn Elementary was able to receive several Zoomy USB microscopes. The goal of this donation was to kickstart a new type of educational experience where students could gain both practical skills and an appreciation for our diverse ecosystem. Zoomy USB digital microscopes are perfect for little learners of all ages as they provide magnification of up to 54x and allow students to closely analyze the structure of everything from fallen leaves to sugar granules. Designed to work with technology, the Zoomy microscope can be used with a computer, projector, or whiteboard and easily uploads and connects via USB. These powerful tools pave the way for students to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them, allowing them to observe objects on a microscopic level.
Science and STEM are not just about abstract concepts found in dusty old textbooks. Activities like working with Zoomy USB microscopes help curious minds harness ideas and explore the concepts they are learning. Studies show that through the incorporation of active learning techniques, such as working with a Zoomy microscope, students can retain more information and knowledge. From studying the intricate design of a fingerprint to observing the details of a butterfly wing, the opportunities for experimentation are endless.
